We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.

Look - no paint!

The next letter in the Craft Barn dictionary challenge is K. This had me flummoxed for a bit, and isn't it strange how suddenly something pops into your head! Anyway, I was taken back to my childhood when I remembered my kaleidoscope, and how entranced I was with all the colours.

I then thought about a particular origami flower that I've used in the past on cards, which reminded me of my kaleidoscope, so ...

No paint was used in the making of this entry - which will probably be the one and only time, but, you never know!

Yesterday I went to the Victoria & Albert Museum to see the Botticelli Reimagined exhibition, which explores the variety of ways artists and designers have responded to the Botticelli's legacy.

The most popular painting to inspire others is this one - The Birth of Venus (painted in the mid 1480s).

And here are a couple of others -

This one by Yin Xin - Venus after Botticelli (2008)

And one of a series by Andy Warhol - Details of Renaissance Paintings (1984)

In all about 150 works from the Pre-Raphaelites to the present day, such as Rossetti, Ruskin, William Morris, and Dolce & Gabbana; as well as over 50 original works by Botticelli.

Fabulous exhibition, which is on until 3 July 2016.

  1. OMGosh. First, I really like your kaleidoscope and the way you used used origami to make it. That was very clever. So unlike you with no paint or stamping. But very cleverly accomplished anyway.

Really enjoyed your sharing works from the museum, because I really love that Botticelli painting. Sounds like it attracted lots of famous artists and houses, too.

  4. I had thought of that one but I had no idea how to represent it so I'm glad you did and with a very clever Origami flower! Love how the letters of the word encircle the flower for more Kaleidoscopic effect!

  5. Fabulous idea for K and a very neatly folded origami design. Thanks for sharing the pics from the V&A exhibition, I love that Andy Warhol in particular. I went to the Tate a couple of weeks back and saw Painting with Light which had works from the Pre-Raphaelites to the modern day, very interesting. I shall put V&A on my wish list, the exhibition sounds great.

  8. Ah the kaleidoscope takes me back! I also find it hard to not use paint but for this your paper folding is very effective x

  9. What a fun idea to make a kaleidoscope! Especially using the origami flower. The colours really pop off the page against that black. I love the V and A, haven't been for a few years but there is always something interesting to see. Lou x
