We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.

Finally ...

... I've finished all my unfinished projects! This last one I started a couple of months ago, but it kept getting pushed aside for something else.

I started with a watercolour background (I added a bit of granulation medium), but the main image is all acrylic paint. I do like the combination of the watercolour with acrylic.  I've put this one in my Etsy shop too.

I went to the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition last week, on one of the hottest days! We went early, and changed our travel plans so we didn't spend too long on the Tube, and was that a good decision - unbearable but only for 2 stops. Just could not do that journey every day (though I used to in my youth!).

Anyway, enjoyed the exhibition but I don't think it was as good as some previous years.

Here are some of my favourite pieces ...

The Courtyard work is by Anish Kapoor
"Symphony for a Beloved Daughter 2018"

One of my favourite artists -
Barbara Rae
"Ice Floes - Peel Sound"
Mixed media on canvas

Timothy Blewitt
"Rufus 3rd"

Made from wood, metal and costume jewellery

Bill Jacklin
"Shooting Star"
Oil

Cathy de Monchaux
"Refuge"
Copper wire and mixed media

Another favourite artist, this piece is huge. I've seen her work in past exhibitions and there are always unicorns!

And yet another favourite!
Gular Ates
"Eton College Library and She IV"

Photograph/Archival Pigment Print

Yinka Shonibare
"Young Academician"
Fibreglass manniquin, Dutch wax printed cotton textile, books and globe

Good time, but arrived home feeling like a puddle, and collapsed on the sofa for the rest of the day!

Power(tex) to the people ...

Had a session with a couple of other friends who wanted to try Powertex on a mirror frame. Unfortunately I forgot to take pics of their pieces - sorry!

I've used t-shirt yarn, paper clay roses and dragonfly, and bits of wallpaper, together with ivory Powertex and Bister sprays. I've done a lot of acrylic paint dry brushing on this, particularly in gold, which doesn't really come out in the photos.

Having finished it I can see a touch of Art Nouveau and Mackintosh in it, which just goes to show how we can be influenced by other art, even subconsciously!

Last week I went to this year's Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy. The usual eclectic mix, here are a few of my favourites.

Sanctuary by Barbara Rae

She does a lot of work with the collaged birds, and I love them all.

This year, the red one attracted me!

Golden Wasp Game #7 by Mike Chisholm

This is a digital print. I am drawn to the simple almost monotone image.

Watching by Wendy Freestone
(bronze)
Quite small, which is what caught my eye, and maybe a little disturbing too.

Another fabulous art-filled day!

Daisy, daisy ...

I'm currently experiencing internet problems, so this will be a short  post (don't you just love technology!).

Here is a small watercolour, done with Brushos, that I've turned into a card. I've used a mount so that it can be framed too.

Daisies always remind me of hot summer days - making daisy chains!

This week I went to the Royal Academy's Summer Exhibition. Fabulous - really enjoyed it. A very eclectic mix of work, some weird and wacky, some very traditional - and everything in-between.

There were so many pieces I loved, that I have put them all onto one of my Pinterest boards. See what I pinned here.

Exhibition time!

The current Paper Artsy challenge is all about time.

This is an experimental small canvas, using disassembled watches.  The first clock face had a couple of cracks in it and I managed to chip away the surface to reveal a copper surface.  I love all the teeny tiny screws and other bits.

This week I went to the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition, which I thought was fabulous this year. Over a thousand exhibits - this is such a amazing show for inspiration with so many diverse artworks. Here are some of my favourites.

In the courtyard - this stunning metal construction - The Dappled Light of the Sun - by Conrad Shawcross.  In weathering steel, consisting of triangles.

Main staircase - Zobop by Jim Lambe - made from vinyl tape.

This is fun - OK going up, but felt quite precarious coming down!

Babel London (after Bruegel), transparency on LED lightbox by Emily Allchurch

Fabulous composite photograph, the detail is amazing.

Asylum, copper wire, medical plasters, pigment, feathers and silk, by Cathy de Monchaux

I first saw this artist's 3D work at last year's exhibition - stunning.

Mahe, acrylic painting, by Angela Braven

I am drawn to the vibrant colours and detail, this is a large canvas.

And finally an awe-inspiring work by Tom Phillips.  In 1966 he wanted to find an old book for threepence and alter every page with various techniques to create an entirely new work.  The book he chanced upon was A Human Document (1892) by W H Mallock.

He decided to call his treatment A Humument, a contraction of the original title.  The first reworking was printed privately in 1973.  Almost 50 years later he continues to revise and develop it.

This is page 303.  Enlarge the photo to read the words.

I fell in love with this work, there are over 100 pages showing in the exhibition.

The Summer Exhibition is on until 16 August - go if you can.

Happy weekend!
